The TEER (Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities) category is a classification system used by the Canadian government to categorize occupations based on the amount and type of training, education, experience, and responsibilities required to perform the work. The TEER categories are used by immigration authorities to determine eligibility for certain programs, such as the Express Entry system.

There are six TEER categories in Canada:

  • TEER 0: Management occupations
  • TEER 1: Occupations that usually require a university degree
  • TEER 2: Occupations that usually require a college diploma or apprenticeship training of 2 or more years
  • TEER 3: Occupations that usually require a high school diploma or equivalent, plus some on-the-job training
  • TEER 4: Occupations that usually require a secondary school diploma or equivalent, plus a few weeks of on-the-job training
  • TEER 5: Occupations that have no formal educational requirement

You can find the TEER category for an occupation on the National Occupational Classification (NOC) website. The NOC is a comprehensive database of all occupations in Canada.
