What is point calculator?

The Canada Express Entry system uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to assess and rank the profiles of potential skilled immigrants. The CRS awards points based on various factors, and candidates with higher CRS scores are more likely to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. The CRS score is out of a maximum of 1,200 points, with points distributed across different categories.

One important tool used to estimate CRS scores is the 67 points calculator, also known as the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) points calculator. It’s used to determine eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program under Express Entry. The minimum required score is 67 out of 100 points.

Here’s a brief overview of the six selection factors and their maximum point allocations in the FSW points calculator:

  1. Age (Maximum 12 points):
    • Points are allocated based on your age at the time of application.
    • Maximum points are awarded to candidates between the ages of 18 and 35, with points decreasing gradually as age increases.
  1. Education (Maximum 25 points):
    • Your education level is assessed based on the equivalency to Canadian educational standards.
    • Points are awarded based on the highest level of education you have completed.
  2. Work Experience (Maximum 15 points):
    • Points are given based on the number of years of skilled work experience you have accumulated.
    • To qualify, you need at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time work experience in a skilled occupation.
  3. Language Proficiency (Maximum 28 points):
    • Language proficiency in English and/or French is assessed through standardized language tests like IELTS.
    • Points are awarded based on your scores in the four language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  4. Arranged Employment (Maximum 10 points):
    • If you have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer, you may be eligible for points.
    • The job offer must be for a skilled position and meet specific criteria to earn points.
  5. Adaptability (Maximum 10 points):
    • Points are awarded for factors that indicate your potential to integrate into Canadian society.
    • Factors include having a spouse or common-law partner with language skills, previous work or study in Canada, or having a relative who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

To be eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, candidates need to meet certain minimum requirements in each factor. For instance, they need at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time skilled work experience, and their education must be assessed and found to be equivalent to a Canadian credential.

It’s important to note that while the 67 points calculator provides an initial estimate of eligibility, a candidate’s CRS score can also be influenced by additional factors, such as a provincial nomination, a valid job offer, or a sibling living in Canada as a citizen or permanent resident.

Candidates who meet the minimum CRS score requirement (usually determined by the latest Express Entry draw) will be invited to apply for permanent residency in Canada. The actual CRS scores selected for ITAs can vary with each draw, as it’s based on the specific needs and goals of the Canadian government.

Each of these factors contributes to your overall CRS score, which is a total out of 1,200 points. Candidates with higher CRS scores have a better chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency through Express Entry draws. It’s important to note that the CRS scores selected in each draw can vary, as they are influenced by the needs and priorities of the Canadian government.

Remember that meeting the minimum score requirement of 67 points in the FSW points calculator does not guarantee an ITA. The actual CRS scores selected for ITAs are determined by the specific requirements of each Express Entry draw.
