About Category Based Draws

Introduction of category-based Express Entry draws aims to invite candidates falling under six specific categories to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

These category-based draws will work alongside other forms of Express Entry draws conducted by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). These existing draws include invitations to apply (ITA) for permanent residence based on meeting the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cut-off requirement among all Express Entry candidates, as well as draws that invite candidates based on their eligibility for a particular program, like the Provincial Nominee Program.

The six categories specified by IRCC are as follows:

1. Work experience in Healthcare.

2. Work experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Professions.

3. Work experience in Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors.

4. Work experience in the Transportation sector.

5. Work experience in Agriculture and Agri-Food sectors.

6. Strong French Language proficiency.
